In Memory of Paul Oium

Paul Oium was a beloved member of the East Central Minnesota community, known for his kindness, dedication, and love for bringing people together. He lived on the shores of Spectacle Lake near Cambridge, where he created lasting memories with friends and neighbors.
Born and raised in Madison, Minnesota—known as the Lutefisk Capital of the U.S.—Paul went on to graduate from Concordia College in 1960. He then moved to East Central Minnesota, where he worked as a social worker for Isanti County Family Services and later at the Minnesota State Hospital.
In retirement, Paul pursued his passion for baking at Dunwoody College of Technology, and his famous cakes, pies, and cookies were a highlight of gatherings in the East Central Men’s Circle. He loved hosting parties at his lakeside home, particularly during the Independence Day weekend.
Paul served on the East Central Minnesota Pride Board until his passing in 2018. In his final act of generosity, he left a legacy gift to ensure the ongoing work of building community among LGBTQ+ individuals in the region. Paul’s spirit lives on through the connections and support he helped create.
