East Central Men’s Circle
The East Central Men’s Circle is a social and support group for gay, bisexual, and questioning individuals who identify as men in East Central Minnesota. Founded in 2000 by Don Quaintance and a small group of friends, the Circle offers a welcoming space for those in the LGBTQ+ community, specifically men in this rural area.
Founding
After losing his first partner, Navy veteran Don Quaintance recognized the need for a supportive community and created the Men’s Circle to connect and support gay, bisexual, and questioning men. Through the Men’s Circle, Don met his current partner, now husband, Bill.
Pioneering Pride
In 2005, the group organized a picnic for their fifth anniversary, which laid the foundation for East Central Minnesota Pride—the first rural Pride event in the U.S.
Community Impact
While other groups, like the Purple Circle, support the broader LGBTQ+ community, the Men’s Circle has played a vital role in providing a space for gay, bisexual, and questioning men to connect and create a sense of community in East Central Minnesota.
